Wellingborough 19 v  Ampthill 19

Wellingborough knew they had to improve their performance on the previous week and came out full of determination.  They were boosted by a healthy crowd who'd attended a "members' lunch" prior to game.

However, playing down the slope they missed an early penalty before Ampthill took the lead with a converted try mid way through the first half.  Just on the stroke of half time full back Simeon Morgan making a rare appearance scored a fine try under the posts to leave Pete Vickers with an easy conversion.  With the clock ticking down a wayward clearance from Ampthill was caught by Vickers who opened up their defence before passing to Steven Gall to run in unopposed.  Vickers missed the conversion but Boro turned around holding a narrow lead.

In the second half Ampthill were having the majority of the play and regained the lead through their forwards with a converted try.  The wind was slightly in Boro's favour and they began to use it.  After a fine break by Simeon Morgan coming into the line and the ensuing ruck phases, Andy Holloway touched down a loose ball.  Vickers converted and Boro regained the lead.  Ampthill were not to be denied and a further try from a driving maul set up from a lineout 5 metres from Boro's line allowed them to draw level.  The conversion was missed leaving the game all square.
