1st XV Report - Sat 27th Jan 2007 v Towcester |
Towcester took full advantage of this and ran in two more tries one of which was converted (although weak tackling didn't help at this point). Boro didn't know how to cope with the opposition's number 11 and Tows stretched their lead with two more tries before the interval leaving them leading 29- 5 at the break. Skipper Dudley Cross, watching from the sidelines was tearing his hair out and his half time rollicking could be heard around the ground. The first ten minutes of the second half failed to reassure Boro's supporters but the team suddenly sprang to life. Gall chipped through to score after catching the kick leaving Vickers with an easy conversion. Tom Meyer was next on the score sheet following a three quarter move again converted by Vickers. It was all Boro now and the arrears were reduced further when Vickers converted his own try after selling a dummy that completely fooled Towcester's defence. It was now 29-26 and the momentum was all with Boro but they looked as if they'd left it too late. However Vickers drew the scores level with a drop goal in the dying minutes to complete a remarkable recovery. The difference in performance between both halves left Boro followers wondering what the score would have been if only they could have done this for eighty minutes. Vickers and Andy Fordham were vying for man of the match with Vickers just getting the nod. Higgins Man of Match: Pete Vickers |
