Wellingborough 10 v Leicester Lions 26
Although Boro went down in this highly entertaining fixture they came out with many positives after some good individual performances. Lions took early control and scored two converted tries, one from a pushover and the second following a basic mistake. Boro came back with a try of their own following several good phases of play between both forwards and backs and Ben Heffernan finished off the move with some determined running. Pete Vickers for once failed to add the two points and there was no more scores in this half. Lions were first to score from the restart but Boro came back again with skipper Dudley Cross going over in the corner for an unconverted try. Colt Adam Martin in at fly half was giving a good account of himself and looks a good prospect for the future. Pete Vickers had moved over to the centre and was doing some sterling defensive work, putting in numerous tackles. Lions were to finish the scoring with one further converted try but Boro could hold their heads high against well organised opposition. Higgins man of the match: Peter Vickers |
