Wellingborough 24 v Peterboro 2nds 10
Boro put in a good performance against a strong Peterboro side that will bode well for their remaining league fixtures. Boros new back row combination shone throughout the match with No8 Andy Fordham in particular leading the way. Boro took an early lead when they drove second row Matt Sanders over for an unconverted try and in miserable conditions it proved to be a difficult afternoon for both sides, particularly for the kickers. Peterboro drew level following a break from deep inside their own half before skipper Dudley Cross and then Fordham increased Boros the lead before half time, Pete Vickers converted the second score with a difficult kick.
To their credit both sides were trying to play an open game and Peterborough were next to score to reduce the arrears. However, Boro added the final points through winger Karl McAndrew after Steven Gall broke through the middle. Vickers added the extra points that saw Boro home and dry.
Both sides should be congratulated for playing open rugby in atrocious conditions and Boro can return to league action next week full of confidence.
