1st XV Report - Sat 14th April 2007 v S & L |
Boro played their part in their bid for a place in the league play off's with a convincing away win at S&L, although none of the results from the three teams above them went in their favour. It looks like they could just miss out although they still have one game to play. Boro were never headed in this fixture and took the lead inside the first five minutes with a penalty from Pete Vickers. S&L drew level with a penalty of their own before winger Chris Mears restored their lead with a well worked try following a scrummage. The ball was shipped quickly through the three quarters and Mears forced his way over in the corner; Vickers was just wide with the conversion attempt and also missed with a further penalty. The rock hard playing surface was dictating the game and it never quite turned into the normal full blooded affair between these two sides. Boro increased their lead early in the second half with a fine try from Steven Gall who broke from the half way line, weaving his way through the defence he left Vickers with an easy conversion. In a rare attack S&L scored a try from a catch and drive lineout whilst Boro had a man in the sin bin. Vickers added a further penalty before Gall ran in his second try of the afternoon; a clearance kick from S&L was fielded by Andy Holloway on his own 22 metre line who moved the ball quickly on to Chris Shipman who then set Gall away for the long run in. Vickers duly converted and Boro were now home and dry and hoping for some encouraging results from other league fixtures which unfortunately didn't go in their favour.
