Daventry 27 v Wellingborough 43

Boro duly rapped up their league campaign with a satisfactory away win that was more convincing than the final score line would suggests.  Pete Vickers opened the scoring after ten minutes with a penalty before Chris Mears ran in the first of his three tries to increase Boro's lead.  Daventry reduced the arrears before Vickers himself took Boro further in front with a try that he converted.  Andy Fordham was next on the scoresheet with a try under the posts duly converted by Vickers and Boro were beginning to stretch clear.  Daventry reduced the score just before half time with an unconverted try following a interception.

In the absence of skipper Dudley Cross, Pete Vickers was leading the side and his half time talk inspired Boro even more.  Mears ran in his second try after being set an easy run in following a break from Steven Gall, and completed his hat trick soon afterwards, both being converted by Vickers.  With Boro running the ball at will it was no surprise when centre Ben Heffernan went over for the final try converted by Vickers.  Boro then eased up with the game safe although by doing this it allowed Daventry to run in three late tries two of which were converted.

Overall a comfortable win for Boro sees them finish fourth in the league.
