1st XV Report - Sat 6th October v Leicester Vipers |
Dom Does it Again!Dominic Smart scored 6 tries in another display of total rugby by Wellingborough. The early kick off seemed to suit the home side as within 5 minutes Dominic Smart caught a high ball just inside his own half, stepped past 2 players and then cut through straight up the middle to score under the posts. Pete Vickers converted. 5 Minutes later he was on hand again when Keir Davidson set up a ruck. The forwards secured quick ball and Dominic scooped up a long pass which went to ground, stepped inside and ran through to score. Pete Vickers again converted. There followed some end to end exchanges as Vipers got back into the game and prevented a further score before half time. Wellingborough were given a severe half time talk by Coaches Mattie Stewart and Dom Malone and 5 Minutes after half time the forwards provided good second phase ball which was fed along the line for Dominic to beat his winger and run around under the posts. Pete Vickers converted. Some good rugby ensued until the other winger Chris Mears got in on the act, beating his man with a neat step to touch down. Pete Vickers converted. 2 minutes later Dominic was again on hand when the ball was moved wide and he finished off the move scoring near the corner. Pete Vickers converted. The replacements were then introduced, Adam Lambert for Matt Earle, Rob Armstrong for Andy Fordham (enabling Chris shipman to move to flanker and Rob to Full Back) and Kelvin Todd for Keir Davidson. These changes did not disrupt Wellingborough's flow and the backs were soon benefiting from good ball to put Dominic away for another try. Pete Vickers converted. Vipers were determined not to go down without countering but Boro' broke out of defence, Dominic kicking up field and collecting the loose ball to race away and score with the cover breathing down his neck. The Vipers determination finally paid off when the Home side ran out of numbers in defence and they went over for a consolation try which was duly converted. The final score of 49-7 reflected that every try scored was converted. Higgins man of the match: Dominic Smart. |
