Towcestrians 5 - 13 Wellingborough

This was a close encounter between two fairly evenly matched sides. Wellingborough got the upper hand early in the second half but couldn't relax until the final whistle. The game moved from end to end regularly in the first half and after a kick ahead Wellingborough caught the full back in possession and won a penalty. Peter Vickers obliging with 3 points. Towcester came back and spent a long time in Wellingborough's half but the visitor's defence held out. Another kick upfield to relieve pressure resulted in a maul which Towcester went into illegally and Peter Vickers kicked the resulting penalty.

With the score 0-6 to Wellingborough the game was far from over as Towcester had taken a lot of Wellingborough's lineout ball. However early in the second half the visitors stole a Towcester lineout in their own half and launched an attack through the backs. Steven Gall carried the ball almost to the line, offloading in the final tackle to Dominic Smart to continue his run of try scoring. Peter Vickers converted from in front of the posts. Wellingborough then enjoyed territorial advantage for long periods but in the last minutes Towcester came back with a series of rolling mauls in the visitors 22. Inevitably the pressure told and with Wellingborough down to 7 forwards after a yellow card for illegally collapsing the maul, Towcester finally went over to score. A missed conversion in front of the posts effectively finished the game for Towcester and the score remained 5 -13 to Wellingborough.
