Wellingborough 33 - 0 Chesterfield
A delayed start due to the away team kit not arriving following a transport breakdown resulted in this match starting 35 minutes late.
The delay seemed to disrupt the home side most and the league leaders applied early pressure through their large well organised pack which caused early panic in the home teams defence. This was not helped by a series of loose passes by the home team and a failure to support in numbers at rucks and mauls that led to several turnovers.
However, as the half progressed Wellingborough finally found their game heads and some excellent pressure on the Chesterfield backline led to turnovers which resulted in Emily Underwood running in two tries with Vicky Campbell adding a conversion to see the home team lead 12-0 at half time.
Wellingborough came out for the 2nd half in a much more determined mood and were soon on the scorebaord again. With Hayley Bolton now giving the forward greater focus the home team pack were producing better ball for the backs and Vicky Campbell at fly-half kept the opposition on the back foot with some excellent tactical kicking which led to three second half tries, two from Emily Underwood and one from Vicky Campbell all of which the fly-half converted.
This win now puts Wellingborough top of their division and gives them a platform to build on for the rest of the season.
