Dudley Retires |
Dudley has had to call it day owing to injury. He sustained a serious neck injury during the league game against Leicester Forest on December 1st 2007. His career has spanned nearly two decades at Wellingborough starting in the Mini-Juniors and graduating through the Colts where he captained them for two seasons. His first team debut came in 1993 after which he’s been the first choice openside flanker for more than 12 years. His record as a player has been outstanding. The Colts Side he captained won the “grand slam” of trophies and he was part of the most successful first team in the Club’s history achieving the highest position in the league, climbing almost to the top of Midlands Two. In his 5th season this year he is now the longest serving Captain in the Club’s history. His disappointment at not being able to complete this season is almost palpable although in typical manner he remains resolute in his ambition for the Club to win the title and promotion. “Obviously I’m gutted that my career has been cut short in this way and I’ve played my last game without realising my ambition to take the league title. However we still have a quality side and, while there is still a long way to go, I’m sure the guys will knuckle down and do whatever is required to finish the job.” He has already said he will continue in his role as Club Captain and support the team in an administrative capacity. I’m sure you would all like to join me in thanking Dudley for his immense contribution to the Club over the years and wish him the success he deserves. Graham Walton
