Wellingborough 24 - 5 Rushden & Higham

A well deserved victory against Rushden. All the Players transferred the skills gained on the training pitch into the game. You all gave full commitment to a fantastic team effort. Although some players only had little game time, they made sure they were noticed in general play. Defence formations were as we have trained with good first and second phase support.  Ricardo and Joel put initial pressure on the opposition with the forwards in hot pursuit. Alex and Sully varied the play and kept the opposition guessing throughout the game. All eight forwards, including the substitutions, kept the scrum in tight formation and as one unit. Well done to Tom, David and Joseph for absorbing the front-row pressure throughout the game. This allowed quick ball for the backs to attack.
A late consolation try at the death by Rushden. Which, if there was television replay, may have been a close call.
Rushden Coaches made a comment in the bar on how fit our team looked on the pitch. This made me quite proud on the commitment the players have put in at training and to join in the fitness runs on friday evenings.
Man of the Match:   Ricardo Albarella
Tries:   Alex Smit (2), Joel Smith, Stephen Evans
Conversions:   Alex Smit (2)
