Match Report - Sat 6th Sept 2008 v Nuneaton Print E-mail

Wellingborough 14 Nuneaton 24

Wellingborough welcomed Nuneaton for their last trial game prior to their first competitive fixture in the league.  Nuneaton who were last year Runners Up in the National Colts Cup and Warwickshire Champions were going to prove a big task for Wellingborough.

The game started with lots of pressure from the away team but in most parts Wellingborough’s defence held strong.  Wellingborough played with a lot of heart and determination and although having a number of players missing  due to injury and school commitments the teams performance was excellent.

Wellingborough’s two scores both came from the backs.  The first a try from fly-half Dan Fitzhugh which came from a lot of great work and pressure from the Wellingborough pack followed by a great step by Fitzhugh.  The second try was a great solo effort from outside centre Joe Marston, who scored from well inside his own half to score under the posts.

This was a pleasing result for Wellingborough and there was enough to show for a very promising season ahead.

Man of the Match: Jonny Durham

Scorers - Tries from Dan Fitzhugh and Joe Marston
