Match Report - Sat 4th Oct 2008 v Huntingdon Print

Wellingborough 25 - 12 Huntingdon

Wellingborough continued their good start in the league with a home win against Huntingdon.

Up against a very strong Wellingborough pack, Huntingdon were always on the back foot and lost a significant amount of ball to the Wellingborough forwards. The first try came from a long kick by Wellingborough which was chased down and led to Dan Fitzhugh scoring under the posts. Wellingborough then continued to be strong and had to hold out Huntingdon with some good defence for 10 minutes of pressure.

The second half started well with lots of attacking flair by the Wellingborough backline. The next score came from poor Huntingdon defence that led to a 5 metre scrum. A good break by Alex Hunt from the base of the scrum saw Jack Whittet score.

Huntingdon replied early from the kick off and scored following a Wellingborough fumble from the kick. This took the scores to 10-5.

Wellingborough scored next with a clean lineout ball which was spun quickly out and fed to Dom Driscoll who outpaced Huntingdon.  The try again went unconverted and took the scores to 15-5. The next ‘boro score came from good lineout play and Fitzhugh ran through for his second try of the game.

Huntingdon’s final score came from some confusing refereeing decisions which saw the Huntingdon forwards convert into a try. This was then ‘amazingly’ converted by Huntingdon.

The final score came from the kick off which saw Fitzhugh score his third which left the final score at 25-12.

Scorers: Dan FitzHugh (x3), Dom Driscoll & Jack Whittet
