Match Report - Sun 2nd Nov 2008 v Nuneaton |
Wellingborough 49 – 0 Nuneaton
Wellingborough’s first game for three weeks due to cancellations saw a depleted Nuneaton Ladies arrive at Cut Throat lane with only eleven players. Wellingborough started the match determined to take out recent frustrations on the opposition and got a score in the 6th minute through Captain Emily Underwood. Wellingborough’s superiority showed in all parts of the pitch with the forwards dominating the scrums and rucks allowing the Wellingborough backs to cut loose and score a further four tries to take a half-time lead of 25-0. Wellingborough made several changes at the break to ensure that all players got a run out. It made no difference to the result as a score in the first minute of the second half by winger Emma Swann meant that the home team maintained the momentum of the first half. With the pack still dominant the forwards were rewarded with a try through Hayley Bolton following a scrum taken against the head by debut hooker Carly Leonard. The game finished 15 mins early due to injury to two Nuneaton players but by this time Wellingborough had put themselves 49-0 points up. Other try scorers in an outstanding team performance were Kerry York, Theresa Boden-Jones and Natalie Smart whilst Emily Underwood ended with four tries and Emma Swann kicked 2 conversions. Along with an excellent team showing there were outstanding individual performances from Carly Leonard playing her first game and Beccy Woodgates who started in the second row and ended the game in the front row.
