I know its a bit late but I've been on Loch Ness for the last week hunting down the monster.........
This game saw Boro entertain Midlands 1 East stalwarts Ilkeston in front of a partisan crowd at Cut Throat Lane (past players lunch) so its was key that Boro put on a performance. The previous week had seen Boro take a bit of a beating at Newbold so they needed to answer their critics and doubters. A few changes for the game saw Alex Ayres drop to the bench and Freddie Davidson start at hooker, Andy Fordham came into the second row and in the backs Luke Gardiner slotted back onto the wing. On the bench JC and Remi Hussein accompanied Alex.
1st Half
The first half saw Boro go up the hill and some early pressure saw Boro awarded with an early penalty, another arrived after a half break by Shaun Mackie, this one was within range and was converted by Pete Vickers to give Boro the lead (Boro 3v0 Ilke). Ilkeston went on the attack and some good offloading from their forwards and backs saw them rewarded with a penalty which was missed, Boro heeded this warning and put together a structured attack only to be thwarted by given away a penalty.
As the half progressed neither team could get a foothold and it took some great defence from Joel Smith, Adam Lambert and Shaun Mackie to stop Ilkeston from scoring the opening try. The error count from both sides was high but then Andy Seaton managed to break clear of the defence on the right hand side and after some good ball retention Boro were awarded with another kickable penalty which was converted by Pete Vickers (Boro 6v0 Ilke).
With half time approaching Boro had one final chance, Shaun Mackie burst through the Ilkeston defence and drew in the last defender before offloading to an onrushing Kieran Checkley who beat the cover defence to score the opening try which was converted (Boro 13v0 Ilke).

2nd Half
The second half started off with Ilkeston exerting territorial pressure on Boro but some good lineout work by Dan Pateman saw the ball cleared. The opening moments were certainly scrappy and saw Joel Smith sent to the bin for 10 mins. Boro's set piece work started to make a difference with good ball on their own lineout and a dominant scrum setting a platform. One dominant scrum saw the ball moved quickly wide, after a quick ruck Shaun Mackie offloaded to Pete Vickers who put Tom Bryan in space and he raced to the line to score his first try of the game (Boro 20v0 Ilke).
Boro now had the ascendancy and some strong tackling and a quick counter attack saw Boro awarded with a penalty which Pete Vickers stepped up to converted extending the Boro lead further (Boro 23v0 Ilke). As Ilkeston tired and their injuries mounted Boro hit the acceleration pedal, one scrum propelled Boro forward and in the process turning over the ball. Strong running from Reece Parillon was sucking in defenders and it was only a matter of time before Boro extended their lead further.
This time it was a charge down in the Ilkeston 22 by Pete Vickers who gathered up the ball to scoot over for a try under the posts which he converted (Boro 30v0 Ilke) that extended the lead. Then, Andy Fordham gathered the ball from the kick off and went on a run before offloading to a marauding Reece Parillon who drew in 4 to 5 defenders, as his momentum was slowed the ball was retained and shifted wide where Pete Vickers found Tom Bryan who dummied and went over for his second try and Boro's bonus point, the try was converted by Pete Vickers (Boro 37v0 Ilke).
The next kick off saw Chris Shipman gather the ball and run it back before offloading to Adam Lambert who then popped the ball inside to JC to take Boro up to the Ilkeston 22. Another strong carry from Reece Parillon again drew in the defence and this time some quick hands from the backs saw Tom Bryan squeeze into the corner for his hat-trick, again the try was converted (Boro 44v0 Ilke).
The game was now drawing to a close but Boro still had one more try left, this time it was a strong JC tackle driving back the Ilkeston ball player 10 yards which resulted in a turnover and Tom Mair showed off his skills with a blind pass to his right which Luke Gardiner sped onto before rocketing through the Ilkeston defence for Boro's last score in the game (Boro 51v0 Ilke).

Wellingborough 51 v 0 Ilkeston
What a bounce back, after a scrappy start Boro got into their stride and won convincingly in front of a large crowd! Strong work from the likes of Reece Parillon and Shaun Mackie meant that Boro were breaking through the Ilkeston defence and eventually the gates opened for a shed full of tries!
