Boro welcomed ON's this Saturday in the return fixture which saw boro lose 41 v 12 back in September. Boro saw the return of a few players Dave Morgan, Paul Lambert and Simon Hall back into the team as well as new faces in Ryan McGealy and three colts who stepped up James Maher, Billy Hyman and Josh Anderson.
After a poor kick off from me Rob Armstrong and an early try form ON's boro had one of the best first half's they have had all season. A solid defence lead by Tyler Ramoo and boro fighting for every ball soon saw boro get on the score sheet with Paul Lambert barging over the line. Boro then scored four more tries two from Freddie Davidson, one from Aiden McAvoy and another from Lambert after a neat little pass from Ramoo. Boro went into the break 29 v 7.
After the break boro switched off and discipline went out the window which allowed ON's to capitalise on boros mistakes making the score 29 v 22. Boro rallied again and strong defence from Booth, McGealy and Hyamn and some strong running from Barlow kept boro camped in ON's half. Boro finally got on the score sheet in the second half with some neat hands down the blindside from James Maher putting James Clancy in some space and his pace saw him score.
Boro managed the last minutes of the game well pinning ON's back in their half with Paul Dennis controlling the boys upfront with 80 minute Dave Morgan and Allan Rigby holding their own and forcing ON's back in the scrum. From the last scrum of the game boro got moving forward James Barlow picked up from the base to end the game with a try.
A great victory over a decent ON's side and a much better performance from the A team.
Saxby Cider Man of the Match went to Billy Hyman for impressing on his first senior mens game.
Next week 20th January the A team take on Huntingdon 2nd xv at home.
