First league match of the season and the girls were on fire! We reached out for all the support we could gather and wanted to show our fans what we are made of, and that is exactly what we did.
During the first half we proved that we wanted to win this match. Early on we lost our newly returned Jo Reece to a head injury, this did not deter our girls from their goal. Jodie Mallard put in some superb runs and tackles, and after a great ball steal from the opposition scored her first try of the game. In true twin style Emily Mallard also took her opportunity to steal the ball pass it on at speed to Jess Wilson who pushes her way over the line scoring her 2nd try of the game.
Bedford/Ampthill continued fighting on putting in tackle after tackle. Rebeckah Mallard showed sheer determination as she ploughed down the wing removing any players who got in her way, she put in some almighty tackles throughout the game. Moonie used her speed to whip up the pitch and weave amongst players bringing the team another 2 tries. As the half time whistle blows we have a stable 46-0 lead.
Second half and the girls are beginning to tire a little but they are not giving in, Bedford/Ampthill have come back with more fight in them and manage to break through for their first try. But with a well timed steal from Hannah and some great team play we began to extend our lead further. Newcomer Ellie Brightwell showed no fear with a massive try saving tackle. To finish off the match Bex had a great run and with a perfectly timed pass to Emily before the tackle our final try was scored.
All in all each and every player had a fantastic game and should all be very proud of their first win. Final score 70-5
